Confirmed: 2026 Hyundai IONIQ 9 to Offer Up to 539 km of Range

The all-new 2026 Hyundai IONIQ 9 three-row electric SUV, which we got the opportunity to test drive for the first time in South Korea earlier this month, is one of the most anticipated new vehicles of 2025. It’s set to arrive in Canadian dealerships by late spring.

The automaker previously assured that all three available configurations will be able to drive at least 500 km with a full charge, and it turns out that was the truth as evidenced by the official range estimates posted by Natural Resources Canada in the past few days.

All IONIQ 9 models ride on an evolution of Hyundai Motor Group’s E-GMP platform and feature a 110.3kWh lithium-ion battery. The single-motor RWD model (215 horsepower) can travel up to 539 km, while the dual-motor AWD model (303 horsepower) is good for 515 km.

The latter is also available in Performance trim (422 horsepower), which drops maximum range to an even 500 km. So, despite being less powerful than the Kia EV9 from Hyundai’s sister company, the IONIQ 9 has the edge when it comes to range.

Obviously, these range figures won’t apply if you’re carrying passengers and cargo, or if you’re driving in less-than-ideal conditions. Large families that need a three-row SUV can’t realistically expect to drive that far.

What’s more, given the minor range difference between single- and dual-motor IONIQ 9 models, the former appear significantly less attractive—215 hp is barely enough power for moving a vehicle of this size and weight, especially when loaded with occupants and gear. Also, towing capacity is limited to 3,500 lbs instead of 5,000 lbs with dual motors.

Pricing could key, however, along with available EV incentives—at least those that remain. Hyundai Canada will provide details closer to launch. When The Car Guide’s Julien Amado asked whether a $60,000 base MSRP makes sense, company reps wouldn’t confirm or deny it.
