Volkswagen Has a Sweet Deal to Make Pricey ID. Buzz Cheaper to Own
The media blitz continues as deliveries of the all-new 2025 Volkswagen ID. Buzz begin at dealerships across Canada. But while the buzz is real, a lot of potential customers are turned off by the colourful, all-electric German minivan’s steep prices.
You see, the company chose to launch the ID. Buzz with a First Edition model boasting a number of exclusive features. It carries a base MSRP of $77,495 (plus freight, PDI and other fees) in single-motor RWD configuration, or $82,995 in dual-motor AWD configuration, the latter offering more power (335 hp vs. 282 hp), more body colour options and second-row captain’s chairs.

Until cheaper ID. Buzz models arrive, Volkswagen is partnering with Electrify Canada (which it owns) to offer customers up to four years of free DC fast charging, from the date of purchase or lease, up to a maximum of 1,400 kWh.
While definitely not the largest EV charging network in the country, Electrify Canada is growing and now operates more than 200 DC fast charging stations in seven provinces. Many of them are located in Canadian Tire parking lots.

The ID. Buzz charging plan includes Plug&Charge functionality, a payment feature that allows owners to begin a charge without reaching for their wallet, smartphone or bank card simply by plugging in their vehicle at Electrify Canada stations. The Electrify Canada mobile app also facilitates charging plan enrollment, activate Plug&Charge, locate stations or check the status of chargers.
By the way, with a maximum DC rate of 200 kW, charging the 91kWh high-voltage battery from 10-80 percent can be done in as little as 26 minutes, Volkswagen claims, so you can get back up to 130 km of range in just 10 minutes. RWD models can drive up to 377 km and AWD models are good for 372 km on a full charge, according to Natural Resources Canada.

It’s no real surprise that some 50 auto journalists from the U.S. and Canada gave the one-of-a-kind van the 2025 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year award earlier this year.
