Pricing Announced for Updated 2025 Volkswagen Golf GTI and Golf R
The refreshed and updated 2025 Volkswagen Golf GTI and Golf R are about to land in Canada. Orders start today with the first units scheduled to arrive by mid-spring.
That means we can now tell you about pricing, and unsurprisingly, the two hot hatches are substantially more expensive than the outgoing 2024 models—the last ones available with a manual gearbox, remember. Dealers are almost out of existing inventory, in case you’re wondering.

2025 Golf GTI
The GTI exterior features a revised front bumper and headlights with a red character line, while the grille is adorned with an illuminated logo and standard lightbar. The 18-inch Jerez machined alloy wheels are wrapped in all-season tires. Also, two new colours join the palette including Alpine Silver Metallic and Slate Blue Metallic.

Inside, now featuring a Carbon Grey décor, the new 12.9-inch infotainment touchscreen is detached from the instrument panel and appears to float above the dashboard. It runs on Volkswagen’s latest operating system, which is faster and boasts a more intuitive layout—but no ChatGPT as in other markets. More good news: physical buttons replace the haptic switchgear on the steering wheel and a ventilated 15W wireless charging pad is added for improved functionality.
Under the hood, as we previously reported, the 262 horsepower for the Golf GTI in Europe will stay over there. Canadian-spec models will continue to generate 241 horsepower. Peak torque is also unchanged at 273 lb-ft, and the only transmission available now is the seven-speed DSG. Get used to it.
Pricing starts at $36,495, an increase of $1,700 from 2024, before you add $2,050 freight and PDI plus $500 dealer fees. Options include 19-inch Queenstown alloy wheels with summer performance tires ($500), a panoramic sunroof ($1,250) and an Artvelour seating package ($500) featuring seats from the European-market GTI Clubsport.

The Golf GTI Autobahn now retails from $40,495, which is $3,600 over its 2024 price tag. That’s because it simultaneously replaces the top-line Performance model, which is not returning foe 2025. The 19-inch wheels, sunroof and Artvelour seats are all included as standard along with an adaptive suspension, harman/Kardon audio system, head-up display, tri-zone climate control and more. An optional leather seating package ($1,200) with driver seat power, memory and front seat ventilation is available.
2025 Golf R
The higher-performance Golf R’s turbocharged four-cylinder engine now generates 328 hp (+13 hp), which is sent to all four wheels through Volkswagen’s 4MOTION system and the standard seven-speed DSG.

As far as styling goes, check out the new headlights and front bumper, as well as the illuminated front logo and standard lightbar. The new 19-inch Warmenau forged alloy wheels not only look good but they are also 20 percent lighter than the previous Golf R wheels.
Changes inside the car are similar to those applied to the Golf GTI, including the new 12.9-inch touchscreen. Navigation, harman/kardon premium audio and 12-way power Nappa leather seats are all part of the mix, too. The Carbon Décor package is no longer available, so the only option on the 2025 Golf R is the panoramic sunroof ($1,250).

Pricing starts at $50,995, up $1,800 from the 2024 model. Add another $2,600 and you’ll get the new Golf R Black Edition, which features numerous black accents and can be specified with a contrasting black roof on Pure White and Lapiz Blue vehicles.
Decorative inserts in genuine carbon fibre round out the interior, while the sunroof comes standard. One more thing: Volkswagen offers a no-charge cloth seating package along with an optional Akrapovič titanium exhaust system ($3,000) that saves 7 kg and enhances the car’s sound. We can’t wait to try it.
