New Hyundai Canada Initiative to Support Paediatric Cancer Patients

We don’t talk nearly enough about the various efforts by automakers to make a difference in local communities, and that’s a shame. There are tons of feel-good stories out there.

Here’s one: Hyundai Canada has just announced the launch of a non-profit organization called Hyundai Hope On Wheels, which is dedicated to supporting paediatric cancer patients and survivors through research funding and raising awareness to help end childhood cancer.

The goal for 2025 is to distribute more than $4 million in research and support grants to institutions and organizations across the country focused on improving outcomes and treatments for children diagnosed with cancer.

“Children are the future, and they deserve every opportunity to grow, play and learn in a world free of paediatric cancer. Each year, approximately 1,000 children are diagnosed with the disease, and tragically, one in six will not survive,” explained Steve Flamand, executive director of sales and digital strategy at Hyundai Canada. “Through Hyundai Hope On Wheels, we aim to drive innovative research and discoveries to improve survival rates.”

The program involves all 226 Hyundai dealers nationwide. Every new vehicle sale since the start of this year triggers a donation to Hyundai Hope On Wheels.

“Research for paediatric cancer remains drastically underfunded in Canada. We’re proud that this has become a keystone commitment for Hyundai Canada and of our role in supporting it,” said Rein Knol, president of the Hyundai Canada National Dealer Council. “With every new vehicle sale contributing to the cause, we know our customers will feel even better when they drive off the lot in their new Hyundai.”

Hyundai Hope On Wheels in Canada is the first global expansion of the similarly named initiative that was established by Hyundai Motor America in 1998 and has grown to be one of the leading funders of paediatric cancer research in the U.S.
