Volvo EX30 Cross Country Puts Big Boots On, Wants to Play in Any Weather
Volvo launched its first Cross Country model over 25 years ago, looking to add all-weather capability and versatility to its cars and wagons. The latest to join the lineup is based on the new, fully electric EX30 and is aimed at drivers who want to play beyond their crowded cities.
As a matter of fact, alongside the EX30 Cross Country, the Swedish company is also launching a new experience package for customers, with access to accessories, gear and information giving them the full potential to explore the great outdoors. More on that in a minute.

For starters, you should know that Volvo engineers have increased ground clearance and that the Cross Country model is exclusively available with dual motors (422 hp, 400 lb-ft) and all-wheel drive.
The front shield and rear hatch both get a special dark finish, with the front featuring a unique piece of artwork showing the topography of the Kebnekaise mountain range in Arctic Sweden. Chunky front and rear skid plates as well as wheel arch extensions complete the more rugged look.
Inside, the Volvo EX30 Cross Country is even more practical than the standard EX30. The doors contain large storage compartments since the speakers have been moved to the dashboard. A multi-function tunnel between the driver and front passenger can be slid out as a cupholder or back if you need to store more things. There’s also a big storage compartment on the floor, while the glove box has been placed beneath the centre console, making it easily accessible for both front occupants.
Rear passengers get their own storage box that slides out from beneath the centre tunnel. This box is also removable and washable, meaning it can double as a waste bin. At the rear, designers have included a handy ‘Will it fit?’ guide on the liftgate so you’ll know exactly how much of your gear you can load in the trunk.
Elsewhere, the new EX30 Cross Country boasts the same technologies (led by Google built-in) and the same advanced safety features (including active braking and steering support) as existing EX30 models.
As mentioned earlier, Volvo is also launching a Cross Country Experience—essentially an array of bespoke offers and discounted accessories for EX30 Cross Country customers. Depending on the market, the list may include roof rails, a roof basket and mudflaps. Further announcements will come at a later date.
“We know that more and more people are seeking ways to get closer to the nature. This is why with our new Cross Country Experience, we aim to create an entire ecosystem around those models, supporting our customers as they embrace adventure,” Volvo CEO Jim Rowan said.
The Volvo EX30 Cross Country will go on sale in Canada later in 2025 when units from Ghent, Belgium are ready to come our way, thus avoiding the 100-percent tariffs on Chinese-made EVs. It will be the same for the next batch of Canadian-bound EX30 units. Pricing has yet to be announced.
