Is Your Ford Maverick or Bronco Sport Experiencing 12V Battery Problems?
Since launching a few years ago, the Mexican-built Ford Maverick and Bronco Sport have posted strong sales in Canada despite experiencing a number of issues and having a fairly long list of safety recalls, especially when it comes to the former. The latest example involves their 12V batteries.
The automaker is now recalling approximately 30,000 units of the 2022 Maverick and 2021-2022 Bronco Sport in Canada due to a possibly defective battery from parts supplier Camel.

In the U.S., over 270,000 units are affected, and the recall also covers 2023 models.
It appears that a manufacturing defect may cause the battery to suddenly degrade while in use. As a result, the engine could stall when the vehicle is in motion or not to restart after a start-stop event. Also, the hazard lights may stop working, according to the recall notice.
In any case, the risk of a crash is increased. There have been no crashes, injuries or fires related to this issue, according to documents Ford provided to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
A similar recall was announced in April of last year, affecting around 55,000 Mavericks and Bronco Sports in Canada. Nearly three out of five units will have to go back to the dealer for a second repair.
This time, instead of a software update to the powertrain control module (PCM) and body control module (BCM), dealers will inspect and ultimately replace the 12V battery at no charge for owners. Those who’ve already paid for new batteries out of pocket could be eligible for reimbursement from Ford.
