First 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 Sold for $5.3 Million at Auction

General Motors has a habit of auctioning off the first unit of its most significant and most coveted cars and trucks, like every new Chevrolet Corvette model. The latest example came this past Saturday when the very first 2025 Corvette ZR1 went up for sale at the Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, Arizona.

The winning bid, made by Hendrick Companies founder and CEO Rick Hendrick, amounted to $3.7 million USD, or the equivalent of $5.3 million CAD at the current exchange rate.

He’s the same man who purchased the first unit of the C8 Corvette in January 2020, as well as the first retail 2023 Corvette Z06 70th Anniversary Edition two years later. The latter became his for $3.6 million USD.

As for the first 2024 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray—and the first-ever gas-electric Corvette—it was sold for $1.1 million USD back in 2023.

This time around, 100 percent of the hammer price will benefit the American Red Cross, mainly to support areas impacted by hurricanes Helene and Milton in 2024, as well as the recent fires north of Los Angeles.

Over 1,000 Horsepower in a Corvette

Blessed not with an electrified powertrain but rather a twin-turbocharged, 5.5-litre DOHC flat-plane crank LT7 V8, the new 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 cranks out an insane 1,064 horsepower and 828 lb-ft of torque. It’s the most powerful V8 ever produced in America from an auto manufacturer.

Chevrolet claims a quarter-mile run in less than 10 seconds and actually achieved a top speed of 375 km/h with GM president Mark Reuss behind the wheel. The massive carbon fibre wing in the rear deserves credit, as it contributes to over 1,200 lbs of downforce at top speed.

Available in coupe and convertible body styles, the new Corvette ZR1 is manufactured at the Bowling Green assembly plant in Kentucky just like every other Corvette. While reservations began a long time ago, the car is not yet on sale. In fact, we’re still waiting for Canadian pricing to be announced.
