Carbon Motors Dedicated Police Cruiser to Get BMW Diesel

In 2007, Carbon Motors announced a plan to supply North America’s police forces with a dedicated policing vehicle. Built from the ground up with police duties in mind, the car, called the E7, addresses many of the problems police have been forced to deal with during the Crown Victoria’s and Chevy Caprice’s long reigns. A larger interior cabin, better placement of crucial controls, and a more robust platform are just a few of the E7’s positive points, but Carbon Motors also promised a high-tech, twin-turbo diesel to give the cars better fuel economy and emissions while still endowing the E7 with high speed pursuit power.

But, getting emissions approval for any new diesel engine can prove incredibly expensive in North America, so Carbon Motors was forced to turn to existing manufacturers to procure their powerplant. And when it comes to twin-turbo diesel engines, there are few manufacturers that built a better engine than BMW. Currently found under the hood of the 335 diesel and X5 diesel, the 3.0 litre inline six diesel produces 265 horsepower and 425 pound feet of torque and achieves a 40% reduction in fuel consumption and emissions.
