2024 Land Rover Range Rover Velar Freshens Up, Goes Digital Only

Land Rover today unveiled the refreshed and improved Range Rover Velar for the 2024 model year. You really have to pay attention to spot the changes on the outside, mind you.

The front grille and headlights are revised for a more modern appearance, the former sporting a rather unique mesh design. The new lower rear bumper conceals the tailpipes, while Land Rover assures the taillights above are redesigned.

New dark accents around the vehicle and a pair of new body colours—Metallic Varesine Blue and Metallic Zadar Grey—are available, too.

Still No PHEV

Don’t look for changes to the trim levels or powertrain selection with the 2024 Range Rover Velar. Here they are:

  • P250 Dynamic SE: turbocharged 4-cyl., 247 hp, 269 lb-ft
  • P340 Dynamic SE: turbocharged 6-cyl., 48V mild hybrid, 335 hp, 354 lb-ft
  • P400 Dynamic HSE: turbocharged 6-cyl., 48V mild hybrid, 395 hp, 406 lb-ft

The 335-hp option has been dropped in the U.S. but continues to be offered in Canada. The plug-in hybrid variant available in other markets is still not coming our way, so potential customers must turn to either the larger Range Rover Sport or a competitor. Every Velar uses an eight-speed automatic transmission that’s been revised for smoother shifting, as well as standard AWD with Terrain Response management.

All About That Touchscreen

Inside, the latest evolution of the Range Rover Pivi Pro infotainment system forms the centrepiece of the cabin. The single 11.4-inch floating curved glass interface is positioned higher and within easier reach than the old, dual-display setup to help minimize distraction and reflections, Land Rover says.

Controls for the climate, seating, radio (including volume) and Terrain Response modes are always visible at each side of the screen via new sidebars, featuring multi-functional sliding controls. It makes for a cleaner centre stack, sure, but is it really more user-friendly? We’re not sure. According to the company, approximately 80 percent of common tasks can be performed within two taps of the home screen.

Of course, the system is able to receive the latest OTA updates (same thing for the chassis and powertrain ECUs). Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto adds convenience, while embedded Amazon Alexa provides more connectivity options. For simple navigation, what3words technology is also integrated within Pivi Pro, so drivers can navigate to an accurate and precise location anywhere in the world, even those that don’t have a specific address.

The Range Rover Velar continues to offer a leather-free cabin option, with new seat designs and materials. The leather-free option combines wool from Danish textile experts Kvadrat with Ultrafabrics polyurethane textile inserts, featuring a new Diamond Herringbone perforation pattern. Land Rover claims it’s lighter yet extremely resistant, as evidenced by 60,000 cycles of abrasion testing (the equivalent of 10 years of usage) and UV tests capable of simulating three years of unrelenting exposure to the sun in just a month.

For customers who prefer genuine leather, three new leather hides are introduced: Cloud, Raven Blue and Deep Garnet. These are complemented by new Moonlight Chrome on the steering wheel, centre console surrounds and air vents. For an extra dose of flair, configurable ambient lighting with a choice of 30 colours is available.

Canadian pricing for the 2024 Land Rover Range Rover Velar ranges from $68,400-$88,500 (plus $1,950 destination and delivery). which represents an increase of $1,550-$1,750 from the 2023 model. You can configure and order yours right now if you want.
