Meet The Car Guide's 2023 Car, SUV and Truck of the Year

Over the past year, the team at The Car Guide has tested hundreds of vehicles to give you the lowdown on every model sold in Canada. Among these, a few models have sparked the attention of our experts. And as the tradition dictates, today The Car Guide is unveiling its Vehicle of the Year award winners.

For the first time ever, the three 2023 winners have something big in common: they are all powered by 100% electric powertrains!

Here are the 2023 models that have been named Car of the Year, Utility Vehicle of the Year and Truck of the Year by The Car Guide.

New Car of the Year: Hyundai IONIQ 6

The Hyundai IONIQ 6 is expected to hit the road in the spring of 2023, but The Car Guide has had the opportunity to drive it during a trip to Korea this fall. We discovered a very competent electric vehicle that impressed us by its design, but also by its driving dynamics and its electric range of almost 500 kilometres. The other finalists for the title of New Car of the Year were the Toyota GR Corolla and Toyota Prius. The Hyundai IONIQ 6 succeeds the Volkswagen Golf GTI/R, which won last year's award.

New SUV of the year: Genesis GV60

Quite a few SUVs have hit the market this year, but the Genesis GV60 was the one that pleased our experts. Sharing most of its technical components with the Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Kia EV6, the Genesis GV60 offers a similar formula, while integrating a good dose of luxury and technology. The other finalists for New SUV of the Year were the Cadillac Lyriq and Mazda CX-50.

The Genesis GV60 is the successor to the Genesis GV70, which won last year's award.

New Truck of the Year: Ford F-150 Lightning

In this category, the Ford F-150 Lightning took the win by knockout. Being the first full-size electric pickup truck to hit the road, the Lightning is a real game changer in its segment. Our experts praised its serious build quality, generous electric range, and stunning technology integration.

The finalists for New Truck of the Year were the Chevrolet Colorado/GMC Canyon and Ford F-150 Raptor R. The Ford F-150 Lightning succeeds the Ford Maverick, which won last year's award.
