New 2023 Ford Maverick Tremor Beefs up and Gets Dirty

It’s now official: the Ford Maverick will follow in the footsteps of the Ranger, F-150 and Super Duty by adding a Tremor model for buyers who would like to take their small pickup off the beaten path.

Orders and production will begin in September.

Available exclusively in XLT or Lariat trim with the 2.0-litre EcoBoost engine producing 250 horsepower, the 2023 Maverick Tremor benefits from a more advanced all-wheel drive system that includes a twin-clutch rear-drive unit with a differential lock feature to allow greater off-road capability (similar to the Bronco Sport Badlands). It can divert virtually all rear-axle torque to either wheel. Five separate drive modes can be selected for tackling pavement, mud, sand or snow, as well as for towing conditions.

Ford’s Trail Control is also included, operating like cruise control for off-road driving so you only have to focus on steering through challenging conditions. Trails and obstacles along the way will be easier to defeat thanks to new springs and shocks, a one-inch increase in ride height and wider approach angle (up from 21.6 degrees to 30.7 degrees).

By the way, a heavy-duty transmission cooler and upgraded half-shafts toughen up the Maverick Tremor. Maximum towing capacity is still rated at 2,000 pounds, while payload is 1,200 pounds.

Of course, this new truck needs looks that match its enhanced capability. It all starts up front with a unique grille and a pair of tow hooks in signature Tremor Orange. The Ford logos, headlamps and taillamps are blacked-out, while the new 17-inch wheels in a Tremor Orange and dark gray anodized finish are wrapped in all-terrain tires. Extra skid plates can be found underneath.

For an even bolder look, customers can select the available Tremor Appearance Package, which includes a Carbonized Grey-painted roof and mirror caps, as well as black side graphics on the hood and lower body. As for the cabin, the Black Onyx seats naturally feature stitched Tremor logos and Tremor Orange accents.

So, how much does it cost? The 2023 Ford Maverick Tremor Package costs $3,400, while the Tremor Appearance Package requires an extra $2,000.
