Freze Froggy is the Weirdest Car You’ll See Today

Does the name Dartz ring any bell? We reported about this Latvian tuner back in 2019, the one that prides itself on offering “bulletproof opulence trusted by billionaires, tzars, superstars, generals and dictators since 1869.” It also built the gold-painted Prombron Kombat Aladeen from Sacha Baron Cohen's The Dictator.

Dartz’ latest creation is not an outrageous, hell-bent SUV but rather a small electric cabriolet. For real.

Leveraging the expertise of Freze & Co, a company that it owns, Dartz has come up with what is called the Freze Froggy, a strange creature that you’re more likely to see on a sunny beach than driving around a posh neighbourhood.

Even smaller than a smart fortwo, the car is actually based on a model from Chinese automaker SAIC-GM-Wuling, which goes by different names including Chery QQ Ice Cream, BAW S3 and Dongfeng Fengguang MINI EV. Freze’s own version is called Nikrob, but to create the Froggy they removed the top and chopped the windshield and side windows in half.

The electric motor driving the rear wheels generate a pedestrian 41 horsepower. However, it’s fed by a battery that provides around 240 kilometres of range, matching a base Nissan LEAF and travelling 50 percent farther than a Mazda MX-30 with a full charge. Not bad.

Dartz says it wants to sell the Froggy initially to hotels and car rental companies near the Mediterranean Sea before it expands sales to private customers. The price is roughly equivalent to $25,000 CAD.

By the way, the other weird-looking car finished in yellow on some of the pictures is an old Mercedes-Benz SLK converted into a dune buggy. Yep, the folks at Dartz can do anything.
