Four Major Reveals Coming in the Next Few Days

The sixth-generation 2023 Honda CR-V made its official debut on Tuesday and surely many people were waiting for it in Canada, but there’s more coming up.

Over the next seven days or so, four other important new models will be revealed and generate plenty of attention. The list includes a new breed of crossover, an extreme pickup, an electric SUV and a mighty hot hatch—a little bit of everything for everyone. Let’s take a closer look…

July 15: 2023 Toyota Crown

The full-size Avalon was dropped in Canada for the 2022 model year and it won’t return to the U.S. for 2023. Its replacement, so to speak, will be a unique new crossover with sedan looks called Crown, which is a storied named in Toyota’s home country of Japan.

Expect a high-end product with an available hybrid powertrain. Reuters reported back in April that it would launch in North America around summer of 2023, but we believe it will arrive sooner than that. Toyota will put an end to all the mystery and speculation this Friday.

July 18: 2023 Ford F-150 Raptor R

An even more powerful and more extreme variant of the Ford F-150 Raptor is coming soon, as we reported last month. All signs point to the Raptor R borrowing the Mustang Shelby GT500’s supercharged 5.2-litre V8 engine, though it remains to be seen how many of those 760 ponies will make the switch. Ford says the truck will be “scary fast,” so the Ram 1500 TRX should watch out.

Based on a copy of a window sticker that recently surfaced online, we also know that a 10-speed automatic transmission, electronic locking rear differential (4.10:1 ratio) and 37-inch BF Goodrich All-Terrain KO2 tires are part of the package. Ditto for electronically controlled Fox Live Valve shocks.

July 18: 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV

Chevrolet recently gave us our best look yet at the future electric variant of its Blazer SUV, which will go on sale in the spring of 2023, powered by GM’s Ultium battery. The image shows the 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV in SS trim, continuing a long tradition of performance at Chevy. The front end looks somewhat similar to the refreshed-for-2023 Blazer, but with slightly more aggressive styling and a unique signature. One cool feature will be the charging port hidden behind a motorized door.

The Blazer EV will slot above the Equinox EV and below the Silverado EV, two more electric Chevys set to launch next year as 2024 models.

July 20: 2023 Honda Civic Type R

Following the new 2023 HR-V and CR-V, Honda’s big summer will continue with the introduction of the second-gen 2023 Civic Type R. Will it be more potent than the outgoing 306-horsepower model? That would be sweet. Remember, a prototype of the new Type R beat the track record for a front-wheel drive car at the legendary Suzuka Circuit.

Sales will begin in the fall. However, a member of the CivicXI forum who claims to be working for a large Honda dealer in Quebec revealed last Friday that only 546 units will be allocated to the entire Canadian market—not annually, but for 2023 through 2025. If true, a lot of hot hatch enthusiasts will be disappointed.
