2023 Nissan Altima Freshens Up, Adds New Tech
Similar to the Subaru Legacy, the Nissan Altima gets a round of updates for the 2023 model year. The first units will arrive in dealerships this fall with fresh styling, enhanced safety and a more technologically advanced cabin.
The lineup will now include four trim levels—S, SR, SR Premium and Platinum, all blessed with standard all-wheel drive once again.

A Bit More Character
Aesthetically, the most prominent feature of the 2023 Nissan Altima refresh is a new front fascia sporting an updated expression of the brand’s V-Motion grille complete with the redesigned Nissan logo. SR models receive a special "black chrome" grille finish along with a unique grille design that differentiates them from the others. Also, LED headlights with integrated turn signals in the daytime running lights are now standard.
A new exterior colour is added to the palette, Ethos Gray, while customers have a choice of two new 19-inch alloy wheel designs for SR and Platinum.
Big Screen
The interior of the 2023 Nissan Altima has received some love from designers, too, including revised instrument panel finishes and a new dual-stitch interior fabric design for SR models.
A pleasant surprise is the large 12.3-inch HD touchscreen standing proudly over the dashboard, just like in the Armada full-size SUV. Boasting crisp graphics and a customizable home screen, it comes with Nissan Door-to-Door Navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless phone charging pad and a WiFi hotspot—all standard on SR Premium and Platinum models.
A Safer Altima
There are no changes under the hood. The 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine is still rated at 182 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque, paired with a continuously variable transmission and standard all-wheel drive.
However, for 2023, Nissan's advanced ProPILOT Assist system is standard on every Altima except the base model. It uses a forward-facing camera and radar, multiple sensors and an electronic control module to enable single-lane, semi-autonomous driving on the highway. The system also can slow the vehicle to a complete stop and hold it during traffic jam conditions.
In other news, Nissan’s so-called “Safety Shield 360” is standard across the line for 2023. This suite of advanced technologies includes Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Rear Automatic Braking, Lane Departure Warning, radar-based Blind Spot Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and High Beam Assist.
All models also feature Intelligent Forward Collision Warning and Intelligent Driver Alertness. Traffic Sign Recognition is standard on SR Premium and Platinum models.
Pricing for the 2023 Nissan Altima will be announced closer to launch in the fall, but expect minor hikes. For the record, the 2022 Altima starts at $32,568 including freight and PDI.
