2023 Subaru Legacy Adds Style, New Tech

A few weeks after the debut of the 2023 Outback at the New York Auto Show, Subaru strickes back with its four-door sibling, the Legacy. Yep, it’s now the midsize sedan’s turn to get a mid-cycle update.

First, styling revisions aim to give the car more character. A larger front grille, aggressive front bumper cover and redesigned LED headlights and fog lights are all part of the mix.

The Legacy Sport, which we don’t have here in Canada but you can still see in the photo gallery above, stands out with red accents, exclusive wheels and a two-tone interior in black and grey.

Most models get the latest version of the STARLINK 11.6-inch multimedia system with standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. On navigation-equipped models, the Legacy follows the Outback’s lead by integrating what3words (W3W), an innovative location technology that provides a simple way to communicate precise geographical addresses anywhere in the world using just three words.

At the top of the lineup, new Slate Black Nappa leather with silver stitching is available. There’s also a wide-angle mono camera that works together with the dual-camera EyeSight system, expanding the field of view to recognize pedestrians and bicycles sooner when the vehicle enters an intersection at low speed.

Speaking of EyeSight, an additional feature called Automatic Emergency Steering works in conjunction with the Pre-Collision Braking System to help avoid a collision at speeds less than 80 km/h.

Furthermore, Subaru says a new 360-degree heated steering wheel is available, keeping the driver’s hands warm at any position.

Customers will still have the same engine options, namely a naturally aspirated 2.5-litre BOXER producing 182 horsepower and 176 pound-feet of torque, plus a turbocharged 2.4-litre BOXER delivering superior performance with 260 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque. Each engine is mated to a Lineartronic CVT featuring an eight-speed manual mode, not to mention Subaru’s symmetrical AWD with active torque vectoring.

The 2023 Subaru Legacy will arrive in Canadian dealerships this fall. Pricing will be announced closer to launch.
