Cadillac Lyriq AWD to Get Around 500 Horsepower

The all-new Cadillac Lyriq electric crossover officially entered production at GM’s Spring Hill, Tennessee assembly plant on March 21. Those who attended the Montreal Electric Vehicle Show from April 22-24 even had the opportunity to see it up close.

Reservations for the Debut Edition were all locked up in less than 10 minutes last September, with deliveries to start this summer. Cadillac will begin taking additional orders on May 19.

As previously reported, the Lyriq will first hit the road in RWD configuration with a base Canadian price of $69,898 including $2,200 freight and PDI. Output is rated at 340 horsepower along with 325 pound-feet of torque. However, the company has promised that a sportier AWD variant will eventually join the lineup, and we now have more details about it.

Combining two electric motors, the AWD-equipped Lyriq will generate around 500 horsepower, Cadillac has confirmed. That’s more power than the Audi e-tron (402 hp), Jaguar i-Pace (394 hp) and the upcoming Lexus RZ (308 hp), but a bit less than the BMW iX (516 hp), for instance.

This Lyriq will be able to tow up to 3,500 pounds as a result. We don’t know about range yet, mind you. The RWD variant is officially rated at 502 kilometres, so a realistic projection would be somewhere around 400-450 kilometres, maybe more. By the way, the 100kWh Ultium battery has been jointly developed by General Motors and LG.

As for features and tech, expect to find the same content in the AWD model including a 33-inch curved display, 19-speaker AKG Acoustics sound system as well as Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving assistance.
