2023 Mazda CX-50 Available in May, Priced Above CX-5
The all-new 2023 Mazda CX-50 is a more rugged-looking SUV that a lot of people are eagerly waiting for. Built in Alabama at a new Toyota-Mazda joint assembly plant, it will be available at Mazda dealers across Canada in May.

More Expensive Than a CX-5
The base CX-50 GS-L has a starting MSRP of $37,900, which is $4,000 above a comparably equipped 2022 CX-5. Standard features include unique 17-inch black metallic alloy wheels, LED headlights, a power rear liftgate with a spoiler up top and a power-sliding panoramic moonroof—a first for Mazda.
The 10.25-inch centre display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration comes with Mazda Connected Services. Leatherette-trimmed upholstery, heated front seats and steering wheel, a 10-way power driver's seat with lumbar support and automatic dual-zone climate control are additional goodies.
Under the hood, the naturally aspirated 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine puts 187 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque to the ground via a six-speed automatic transmission and i-Activ all-wheel drive system. The Mi-Drive selector allows drivers to choose between various modes such as Sport or Off-Road. As for towing capacity, it is rated at 907 kilograms (2,000 pounds).

Positioned a step higher at $42,850, the CX-50 GT distinguishes itself visually by offering 20-inch machine-cut alloy wheels with black metallic accent, adaptive LED headlights, LED taillights and leather seating surfaces in black or a unique terracotta colour. Front-row occupants enjoy heated and ventilated seats. Premium trim inserts with either camel or orange stitching add another touch of refinement.
Technology is enhanced with a 12-speaker Bose premium audio system, navigation, SiriusXM Traffic Plus and Travel Link services (complimentary 5-year subscription) and wireless phone charging.
You’ll find the same engine unless you opt for the CX-50 GT Turbo at $45,350. In this case, the turbocharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine produces 256 horsepower and 320 pound-feet of torque on premium 93 octane gas, or 227 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque on regular 87 octane gas. The new available Tow Mode assists with towing up to 1,588 kilograms (3,500 pounds).
The GT Turbo further receives steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters, larger exhaust outlets and silver accents in the front and rear bumpers.
Later this year, Mazda will launch a Meridian Edition (pictured above) sporting exclusive 18-inch alloy wheels, all-terrain tires, rocker panel and headlight protection along with distinctive hood graphics.
