3 Good Reasons to Buy a Used Kia Niro

The small Kia Niro crossover appeared on our roads six years ago and is a rare breed in the automotive industry. Not only does it not offer a gas-only version, it is also available as a hybrid, plug-in hybrid (Niro PHEV), and 100% electric vehicle (Niro EV).

For singles, couples or even small families looking for a sport utility vehicle that's not too big but still practical (despite the absence of all-wheel drive) and very fuel-efficient (who doesn't want to save money at the pump with gas prices soaring right now?), the Kia Niro is definitely a model to consider.

An all-new generation is coming in 2023, but here are three good reasons to buy a used Kia Niro...

Efficiency

Let's talk about fuel consumption. The Niro leads its class with a combined fuel consumption of just 4.8 L/100 km (rising to 5.4 L/100 km in the heavier, range-topping Touring version). The Niro PHEV is capable of driving about 40 kilometres without burning a drop of fuel, and uses 5.1 L/100 km when the battery is depleted. Finally, if you don't want to stop at the gas station but rather plug in at the charging station instead, you can opt for the Niro EV, which offers a range of 385 kilometres in ideal conditions.

Quality and reliability

Kia has been among the top automotive brands in terms of quality for many years, as confirmed by studies from the American firm J.D. Power. They also ranked Kia at the top of their latest reliability rankings, based on three-year-old vehicles. In addition, the renowned Consumer Reports magazine considers the Niro to be a more reliable model than most, especiall 2019 model years and newer.

Getting the best bang for your buck

Finally, the Kia Niro impresses with the level of equipment offered for the price, as well as with its spacious interior given its small size. The regular hybrid model has a 635-litre rear cargo space that can be expanded to 1,789 litres by folding the rear seat. That's great. As for the Niro PHEV and Niro EV, because of the high-voltage battery they're both equipped with, their maximum cargo capacity is just over 1,500 litres.
