2022 Subaru WRX Now Priced Over $30,000 in Canada

Subaru has just announced Canadian pricing for the new 2022 WRX. After four generations below the psychological mark of $30,000, the popular Japanese sports sedan cannot afford to stay that way any longer.

Fear not, the hikes are not too bad—unlike all those vehicles that now cost way more than they did five years ago.

The 2022 Subaru WRX starts at $30,995, which is $1,000 above the outgoing model. Once again featuring a six-speed manual gearbox and all-wheel drive as standard, it boasts a new 2.4-litre turbocharged engine producing 271 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. That’s a full three horsepower more than the old 2.0-litre unit (yeah, we know) while torque is unchanged.

In base trim, you also get a dual seven-inch infotainment display, sport-style heated cloth seats, automatic LED headlights and 17-inch alloy wheels in a gunmetal finish wearing Dunlop SP Sport Maxx GT600A tires.

There’s a pretty big step to access the WRX Sport, which retails from $35,495. This one adds LED fog lights, 18-inch wheels, a low-profile rear spoiler, 11.6-inch tablet-style touchscreen and aluminum sport pedals. Premium cloth wraps the seating surfaces and interior trim is adorned in soft-touch material, while SUBARU STARLINK Connected Services are offered with a free three-year trial.

Optionally, the new Subaru Performance Transmission (CVT) offers up to 30 percent faster upshifts and 50 percent faster downshifts. A simulated eight-speed manual mode can be accessed using the paddle shifters on the steering wheel. You must pay an extra of $2,600, but it’s the only way to also get Subaru’s next-generation EyeSight advanced safety system, which is a major benefit.

By the way, the latest version of EyeSight includes new Emergency Automatic Steering, Advanced Adaptive Cruise Control with Vehicle Hold, Pre-Collision Braking, Pre-Collision Throttle Management, Lane Keep Assist and Sway Warning, Lane Centring Assist and Vehicle Start Alert. Reverse Automatic Braking is included, too.

Finally, the top-line WRX Sport-tech starts at $39,295 (manual) or $41,895 (CVT). It stands out with adaptive LED headlights, C-shaped LED daytime running lights and an exclusive new Solar Orange Pearl body colour. The interior receives GPS navigation, Ultrasuede inserts on the seats, heated rear seats and a premium 11-speaker Harmon Kardon audio system.

The 2022 Subaru WRX will arrive in showrooms this spring. Come back soon for our first-drive review.
