Used Ford Escape: How Much Should You Pay?

Despite a decline in sales in recent years, the Ford Escape remains one of the most popular vehicles in the country. Completely redesigned for the 2020 model year, it's now available with an great selection of engines ranging from a turbocharged three-cylinder to a plug-in hybrid system that provides up to 60 kilometres of electric range.

If you're interested in the Escape but prefer a used one, you shouldn't have too much trouble finding one that meets your needs and budget.

How much should you pay? Well, let's see...

First, there are two things that need clarifying. When new, the Ford Escape usually starts at just over $25,000, but it can climb to around $40,000 for a top-of-the-line model. Also, with the current low inventory levels in many dealerships, used Escape values are higher than they have been in the past.

When you search on Otogo.ca, you'll find nearly 300 Ford Escape models for sale covering the years 2008 to 2021. Overall, prices range from as low as $2,300 to as high as $43,300.

If you look closely, you'll see that an older generation Escape (2013-2019) costs no less than $9,000. For that price, however, the mileage can easily exceed 150,000 km or even 200,000 km.

For less than $20,000, you'll find several interesting 2016-2018 Ford Escapes with less than 100,000 kilometres on them and in good condition. These are often SE or SEL versions, but a few luxurious Titaniums are also part of the lot.

Unsurprisingly, the most expensive examples are more equipped versions from the new generation, some with hybrid drivetrains and all-wheel drive. DExpect to pay over $33,000 for a demo.

One of the good deals we found was a 2017 Escape AWD with just 61,000 km on the odometer priced at just under $18,000. Powered by a 1.5-litre engine with 170 horsepower, its equipment includes heated front seats.

Happy shopping!
