Porsche Vision Gran Turismo is a Real Concept for the Virtual World
The highly anticipated Gran Turismo 7 will be released on March 4, 2022, which will only make winter seem longer. And it will have one special car you won’t be able to find in any other game: the Porsche Vision Gran Turismo.
Porsche has been involved with the Gran Turismo series since 2017, more recently with the Taycan Turbo S, but this is the first time the German automaker has developed a vehicle purely for the virtual world.

The concept you see here is very real, though. It was developed by Porsche designers and engineers with input from Japanese video game studio Polyphony Digital, maker of Gran Turismo. Freed from the constraints of developing models for series production, they were able to put their own ideas for a Gran Turismo car into practice.
“Projects such as the Porsche Vision Gran Turismo are particularly valuable for us in the creative process,” says Michael Mauer, head of design at Porsche. “Further developing our clearly defined Porsche Design DNA and exchanging with designers from other industries is an important part of our work.”
The new Porsche Vision Gran Turismo is in a way a preview of what future Porsche sports cars and race cars will look like in the next decade. It’s a bit like a cross between the 917 Living Legend and Vision 916 concepts, with a super-low and wide stance emphasized by prominent fenders where 22-inch wheels reside.
The low-mounted, four-point headlights are an evolution of those on the Taycan, while at the other end the thin light bar goes a step further than the one on the Taycan and 911: it’s actually part of the active rear spoiler.
There are no doors on the Porsche Vision Gran Turismo, by the way. To access the cockpit, the single-piece roof-and-window assembly flips up and forward. Drivers sit extremely low and are attached to their seat by a racing harness. In front of them are movable pedals, a race-spec steering wheel inspired by that of the 919 Hybrid and holographic instruments on a transparent, curved display.
Just so we’re clear, this concept is fully electric. In addition, it uses a sophisticated combination of carbon and titanium to reduce weight while increasing performance. Inside, the door handles are pull straps and designers only used 100-percent vegan materials including RaceTex for the seats.
