Lexus RZ Confirmed as Brand’s First Electric SUV for Canada
Sometime in 2022, Lexus will unveil its first all-electric SUV designed for global markets including North America. Inspired by the LF-Z Electrified concept, the vehicle will simply be called RZ.
Look for a performance-oriented, coupe-style SUV that rides on a specially modified version of the e-TNGA electric vehicle platform, which underpins the new Toyota bZ4X and Subaru Solterra.

The company says the Lexus RZ aims to take the driving experience to an exhilarating new level, using steer-by-wire technology (with no mechanical link between the steering wheel and the front axle) and a fully variable all-wheel drive system.
The latter, called DIRECT4, was originally introduced in December of last year. It is designed to precisely control the delivery of torque from front and rear electric motors and braking force to all four wheels. The system automatically adapts to the driving conditions and selected drive mode.
According to Lexus, DIRECT4 is the key to a winning recipe that blends powerful, linear acceleration with great cornering performance and a comfortable, quiet ride. Sounds promising enough.
As for styling, the three teasers released today show a low and sleek silhouette with smoother lines than the bZ4X-Solterra duo and signature Lexus design cues at both ends.
The LED daytime running lights up front are a good example. There’s no large body cladding on the fenders, either. In the rear, a thin LED bar connects the taillights and the Lexus name appears right above, in the middle of the liftgate.
