2022 Toyota GR 86 Going on Sale Dec. 1, Prices Get a Bump

Toyota Canada has just announced pricing details for the second-generation 2022 GR 86 coupe, which replaces the original 86 and goes on sale December 1 at Toyota dealers across the country.

The car will be available in two trim levels, the base one starting at $31,490 plus freight and delivery. This represents an increase of $1,340 from its predecessor.

“The Toyota Gazoo Racing team has done a remarkable job of redesigning and reengineering our 2+2 sport coupe—enhancing its aerodynamics and handling, while boosting performance and fitting it with an upgraded interior,” said Cyril Dimitris, Vice President of Toyota Canada. “This second-generation model now carries the Gazoo Racing badge, our certification to enthusiasts that this authentic sports car delivers incredible driving fun.”

In case you forgot, the 2022 Toyota GR 86 now features a 2.4-litre four-cylinder boxer engine (previously 2.0-litre), which boosts output to 228 horsepower (+23) and torque to 184 pound-feet (+28). While many would have liked a turbo, the difference is significant, as we found out during our first test drive this past summer.

Consider this: 0-100 km/h times have dropped from 7.2 to 6.3 seconds for the manual transmission, and from 8.2 to 6.8 seconds for the automatic. The latter, by the way, requires an extra $2,400, but it comes with additional safety technologies including pre-collision braking, full-speed dynamic radar cruise control, pre-collision throttle management, lane departure warning, sway warning and lead vehicle start alert—all of which are shared with the 2022 Subaru BRZ featuring EyeSight.

Standard equipment includes 17-inch alloy wheels and LED headlights. Inside, look for sport bucket seats up front, an eight-inch infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, plus a seven-inch digital instrument cluster.

The more upscale GR 86 Premium starts at $34,490 with the manual gearbox or $36,890 with the automatic. This model stands out with 18-inch alloy wheels on Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires, a rear duckbill spoiler, leather/alcantara seat cladding, heated front seats and aluminum sport pedals.

Safety enhancements include the Blind Spot Monitoring system with Rear Cross Traffic Alert and the Adaptive Front Lighting system.
