Confirmed: Ford Bronco Raptor Coming in 2022

It’s not a secret that Ford is working on a beefed-up, high-performance variant of the new Bronco, naturally to be called Bronco Raptor, but today the company made it official with a teaser announcing its debut sometime in 2022.

Ford CEO Jim Farley had a warning for fans on Twitter, saying “Hold on to your butts.” Watching the super-short video, we tend to agree.

With dramatic music serving as the soundtrack, the clip starts with a close-up shot of the Bronco Raptor’s front grille, sporting big “FORD” lettering instead of the Bronco name found on other models. The contrasting finish on the grille surround is also found on the extra-wide fender flares, which inevitably cover rugged, oversized tires.

The only other thing we see in the video is a giant cloud of dust left by the Bronco Raptor going full steam in an off-road setting. We don’t know what engine lies under the hood—could it be the same 3.5-litre V6 rated at 450 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque as the F-150 Raptor, or a 3.0-litre V6 producing around 400 horsepower?

Look for an upgraded, longer-travel suspension, increased ground clearance and wider tracks. According to some sources, only the four-door body style will be available. And don’t expect the manual transmission to be offered, here.

The Ford Bronco Raptor will directly rival the new Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392, whose 6.4-litre HEMI V8 cranks out 470 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. It can sprint from 0-100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds. What a duel this will be.
