Upcoming Chevrolet Silverado EV to Offer Four-wheel Steering

General Motors is doling out information about the upcoming electric variant of the Chevrolet Silverado. As we wait for the official reveal, the automaker today announced that the truck will be available with four-wheel steering, similar to the GMC Hummer EV.

This technology enables the vehicle to steer all four wheels, enabling increased agility and tighter turning radius at low speeds, improved handling and stability at higher speeds, as well as great trailering dynamics.

And get this: the wheels will measure up to 24 inches in diameter. Seriously.

GM didn’t say whether four-wheel steering will come standard on all Silverado EV models, just a few of them or as part of a package. What we do know is that maximum range will exceed 640 kilometres, as previously announced.

In the past, cars like the Honda Prelude, BMW 850 CSi and Mitsubishi 3000 GT could be equipped with a four-wheel steering system. GM also developed Quadrasteer technology for full-size pickups in the early 2000s.

Designed as an EV from the ground up, the zero-emission Silverado will harness the best of the new Ultium platform and battery. Both the fleet and retail versions will offer customers a variety of options and are expected to be in high demand.
