2022 Porsche Macan Goes Under the Knife, Flexes its Muscles

The best-selling Porsche Macan is getting a round of updates for the 2022 model year and performance enthusiasts can definitely rejoice as all three trim levels get a significant boost in power.

Only three? That’s right: the Macan Turbo is skipping a year and likely coming back stronger as well for 2023.

Let’s start at the bottom where the base Macan now generates 261 horsepower (+13) and delivers 0-100 km/h acceleration in 6.2 seconds. The Macan S, meanwhile, gets a twin-turbo 2.9-litre V6 engine producing 375 horsepower, up 27 from its predecessor, and sprints from 0-100 km/h in 4.6 seconds.

And then there’s the super-sporty Macan GTS, which features the same engine as the S model but cranked up to 434 horsepower, an increase of 59. It reaches triple-digit speeds from a standstill in just 4.3 seconds when equipped with the Sport Chrono package. By the way, all engines are paired with the seven-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission and Porsche Traction Management (PTM) all-wheel drive system.

The automaker says the 2022 Macan benefits from an optimized chassis and responds to driver input and road conditions with more finesse and precision—even more good news for sporty driving enthusiasts. Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), which continuously adjusts damping at all corners, is optional on the base Macan and standard on S and GTS models.

An adaptive air suspension drops the Macan GTS’ ride height by 10 millimetres while increasing rigidity by 10 percent up front and 15 percent in the rear. For yet another layer of sportiness, the available GTS Sport package adds 21-inch GT wheels, performance tires, Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus) and the Sport Chrono package.

More Flair and Content

On the outside, the 2022 Porsche Macan features a redesigned front fascia with a body-coloured applique. In GTS trim, the mid-section at the front and various other elements are finished in black.

LED headlights with Porsche Dynamic Lighting System (PDLS) and Sport Design side mirrors now come standard across the line. As many as 14 body colours can be selected, including flashy new Python Green on the Macan GTS with GTS Sport package. Wheel sizes have grown to 19 inches (Macan), 20 inches (S) and 21 inches (GTS) with seven new designs to choose from.

As for the cabin, the centre console features a new touch surface operating concept along with a shorter shifter. Above the 10.9-inch HD touchscreen is an analog clock as standard equipment. A 911-derived GT Sport multi-function steering wheel and contrast stitching on the seats are available. With the aforementioned GTS Sport package, look for 18-way adjustable Race-Tex leather sport buckets up front and a carbon interior package.

The 2022 Porsche Macan can be ordered now with deliveries starting early next year. The base model will cost you $58,500, which represents a negligible hike. However, the Macan S ($70,600) and GTS ($85,500) are up $5,000 and $6,300, respectively.
