2022 Toyota Prius Nightshade May Be a Reason for Batman to Go Green

Okay, we’re not seriously suggesting that Gotham City’s protector should trade in his Batmobile for this new Nightshade Edition of the Prius that was announced today. But of the eleven Toyota models that have now received the dark treatment, it’s the first hybrid, so that is newsworthy.

Fans have long agreed to disagree on the Prius’ polarizing looks. Maybe a way to appease critics is exactly that: a bunch of black exterior accents from the front grille to the rear deck-lid spoiler and everything in between such as the headlights, wheels, mirror caps, badges and more.

Three body colours are available starting with Midnight Black for maximum effect, but don’t overlook Super White which creates a stunning contrast. The other option is Classic Silver.

Inside, you’ll find heated front seats, SofTex synthetic leather surfaces (including on the heated steering wheel) and a high-gloss black centre console. The standard infotainment display is a seven-inch unit.

There are no changes when it comes to the powertrain, unsurprisingly. By the way, the Nightshade Edition applies to both FWD and AWD-e variants of the Prius. The Prius Prime plug-in hybrid, which delivers about 40 kilometres of zero-emission range, is left out.

Just like every other Prius, safety is maximized with the Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 suite of advanced driver assistance features including a Pre-Collision System with Low-Light Pedestrian Detection, Bicyclist Detection, Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert, Automatic High Beams and Road Sign Assist.

Pricing for the 2022 Toyota Prius Nightshade Edition will be announced closer to launch, which is expected to be this fall—right in time for would-be vigilantes that want to save fuel while patrolling the streets on Halloween night.
