All-new Nissan Pathfinder Teased, Old Pathfinder Recalled

In less than a week, on February 4, Nissan will unveil the next generation of its midsize pickup, the Frontier, as well as the next generation of its three-row midsize SUV, the Pathfinder.

The latter has a design that dates back to the 2013 model year and has received only minor changes since then. A complete overhaul is highly anticipated.

Just to tease fans, the automaker today posted a short, six-second video of the all-new Pathfinder. It doesn’t reveal much, as you can imagine, but it seems to indicate a return to the model’s roots:

The once-rugged, body-on-frame 4x4, which went in a whole other direction by adopting a unibody construction and putting more emphasis on comfort, may be ready to tackle the trails yet again. Off-road-ready SUVs are gaining momentum these days, and regardless if Nissan brings back the Xterra or not, the Pathfinder could definitely use more muscle and character.

By the way, is the Frontier-Pathfinder double reveal a sign that these two will share the same architecture? We’ll find out for sure on February 4.

Recall for 2013-2015 Nissan Pathfinder

As for the outgoing generation, you should know that Nissan Canada will recall approximately 30,000 Pathfinders from the 2013-2015 model years because the stop lamp switch may not have been installed correctly.

Over time, this could cause the stop lamp relay to fail and stick in the on position. If this happens, engine power may be reduced and the brake lights will stay on. Additionally, the vehicle may be started and shifted into gear without pressing the brake pedal.

Nissan will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their old Pathfinder to a dealer for an inspection of the stop lamp switch and relay. If the stop lamp relay was deleted during a previous repair, no further action is required. Otherwise, the dealer will adjust or move the stop lamp switch and replace the stop lamp relay.
