2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross Fixes a Number of Issues

Following the teaser we saw a couple of weeks ago, Mitsubishi is now giving us our first official look at the refreshed 2022 Eclipse Cross.

It doesn’t take long to realize the many changes that have been made to the exterior. Up front, the upper LED lights are thinner, while those built into the revised bumper are larger and more intricately styled.

The most striking departure from the outgoing model is in the rear. The odd sculpting and unsightly red bar connecting the taillights arguably drew the biggest complaints from potential customers. Now, the rear hatch boasts softer lines and the uninterrupted window should definitely improve visibility. The refreshed taillights are not unlike those on the Nissan Kicks, by the way.

Goodbye, Touchpad!

Inside, the changes to the 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross are less significant. There’s a new colour scheme applied to the seats and door panels, but the single picture provided by the company makes it hard to appreciate.

We’re excited about the new eight-inch touchscreen at the top of the dashboard. It’s larger than before with sharper menus and two physical buttons for radio tuning and volume. More importantly, it allowed designers to eliminate the touchpad on the centre console, which most users found not-so-intuitive and rather unpleasant.

Mitsubishi has not announced any big update under the hood. Expect the turbocharged 1.5-litre engine (152 hp/184 lb.-ft. of torque) to return along with a CVT and standard all-wheel drive.

The 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross will first go on sale in Australia and New Zealand before landing in Canada during the first quarter of 2021. Too bad we won’t get the plug-in hybrid variant available in select markets.
