2021 Ford Mustang Mach 1 Now Ready to Order; How Much is it?

Officially resurrected in June of this year, the new 2021 Ford Mustang Mach 1 can be ordered as of today, October 14. The date is no coincidence for U.S. Air Force pilot Chuck Yeager became the first person to break the sound barrier (a.k.a. Mach 1) exactly 73 years ago.

Unlike the all-electric Mustang Mach E, there is no online configurator. Customers must either call or visit their local Ford dealer to make a reservation. Pricing starts at $65,500, plus a freight and delivery charge of $1,800.

Similar to the original Mach 1 launched in 1969, this modern generation fills a gap between the Mustang GT ($40,790) and the Mustang Shelby models. As such, it replaces the BULLITT special edition ($58,500) as well as the Shelby GT350 ($76,425) in the 2021 lineup.

Armed with a specially calibrated 5.0-litre V8 engine that delivers 480 horsepower at 7,000 rpm and 420 pound-feet of torque at 4,600 rpm, the new 2021 Ford Mustang Mach 1 effectively becomes the most track-capable 5.0-litre Mustang ever. This is also the result of a newly designed front end, Ford Performance parts from Mustang Shelbys (intake manifold, oil filter adapter, engine oil cooler, etc.) and an available Handling Package.

For purists, there’s good news and bad news. The Mach 1 comes standard with a six-speed Tremec manual transmission, but the unit features downshift rev-matching so heel-and-toe shifting is no longer necessary. The alternative is a 10-speed SelectShift automatic transmission with an upgraded torque converter and unique calibration.

The aforementioned Handling Package, which is available with either the manual gearbox or the automatic, includes unique, wider 19x10.5-inch front and 19x11-inch rear Tarnished Dark-painted aluminum wheels, a unique, larger front splitter providing extra downforce, new front wheel lip mouldings, plus a low-gloss Magnetic swing spoiler with a Gurney flap and rear tire spats from the Shelby GT500.

Exterior colour options include the Mach 1-exclusive Fighter Jet Grey (Appearance Package only), as well as Iconic Silver, Shadow Black, Oxford White, Velocity Blue, Twister Orange, Race Red and Grabber Yellow. Satin Black side and hood stripes are included with reflective accent stripes in any of three colours: Red, White and Orange (Appearance Package only).

Deliveries of the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach 1 at dealerships will begin in the spring. What are you waiting for?
