Nissan Titan Won’t Return to Canada After 2021

There soon will be one less player in the full-size pickup segment, at least in Canada. The Nissan Titan, including the medium-duty Titan XD, will not be sold here beyond the 2021 model year. It will continue to exist in the U.S., however.

Nissan Canada Product Communications Manager Jennifer McCarthy confirmed the discontinuation to The Truth About Cars yesterday.

This is part of the Japanese automaker’s four-year plan to streamline its business and operations. Announced in May, the plan calls for reducing global manufacturing capacity by 20 percent and cutting the number of models offered from 69 to less than 55.

In 2019, Nissan sold 2,807 Titans in Canada, a drop of 48.4 percent from the previous year and well behind every other competitor with a microscopic market share of less than one percent. During the first half of 2020, sales are down 53.9 percent, the COVID-19 pandemic making matters worse.

The Nissan Titan and Titan XD both received a major overhaul for 2020, but the company had already started getting rid of unpopular build configurations and options before that, such as the Cummins diesel V8. Now, only the crew cab and 5.5-foot cargo bed remain.

With the elimination of the Titan and Titan XD, Nissan Canada says it will focus on its core existing products, such as the completely redesigned 2021 Rogue, and support the launch of cars like the 2021 Versa, not to mention the all-new 2022 Ariya electric crossover and next-gen Frontier midsize pickup, the last two arriving in showrooms next year.
