Tesla Cybertruck May Go on Cross-country Tour Later This Year

The Tesla Cybertruck has been spotted on the roads of California a few times following its big reveal in November. More recently, it went on display at the prestigious Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles.

This futuristic EV pickup with polarizing looks is generating interest not just on the West Coast but across North America, too.

Replying to a Tesla enthusiast on Twitter, CEO Elon Musk hinted that the company will take the Cybertruck on a tour of the U.S. later in 2020 in order to allow as many people as possible to admire it in person.

Such a continental trip would most likely be a marketing exercise rather than an actual test to validate the truck’s performance, like its range of up to 800 kilometres in top-line trim. But there’s a chance it might never even happen. After all, Tesla and Elon Musk in particular are known for postponing plans or cancelling them altogether.

On a related note, Tesla is working on Cyberland Bound, an overland expedition designed to evaluate the capabilities of the Cybertruck across the TransAmerica Trail by allowing participants to push it to the limit off-road.

Just a reminder: production is scheduled to begin in late 2021—at a plant that’s not even built yet—and reports indicate that over 650,000 customers have pre-ordered a copy already.

The Tesla Cybertruck will not be the first electric pickup to hit the market, mind you. It will be preceeded by the Lordstown Endurance, Rivian R1T, Bollinger B2 and possibly the GMC Hummer EV.
