The Car Guide’s 2020 Best Buys: Audi A5 Cabriolet

Every year, The Car Guide publishes its Best Buys in nearly 30 different vehicle categories. Today we continue our review of the 2020 winners with a look at luxury convertibles. Once again, the Germans rule the road!

The Audi A5 Cabriolet (MSRP from $65,200) continues to impress with a super-modern and sophisticated exterior design, world-class interior and surprisingly spacious rear seats by convertible standards.

Its power-folding soft top is well insulated, making the cabin quite relaxing, and can be lowered or raised in just 15 seconds even while the car is travelling at a speed of up to 50 km/h. The ventilated front seats make driving on a hot sunny day even more pleasant, while the available neck warmers keep you on the road longer into the night or season.

Speaking of which, the Audi A5 Cabriolet doesn’t care about road or weather conditions thanks to standard quattro all-wheel drive both on the base 248-horsepower model with seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and the sporty 349-horsepower S5 Cabriolet equipped with an eight-speed automatic. The latter cuts 0-100 km/h acceleration times from six to five seconds.

Second place in the luxury convertible category goes to the Mercedes-Benz C-Class Cabriolet (MSRP from $58,200). This one serves up a great combination of luxury, style and refinement along with a trio of healthy powertrains, ranging from the 255-horsepower C 300 4MATIC to the almighty AMG C 63 S with 503 horsepower.

Completing the podium is the larger Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet (MSRP from $83,000), which naturally offers more space and opulence than the C-Class. Two models are available, producing 362 and 429 horsepower. The bigger engine features the brand’s EQ Boost mild hybrid technology and reaches 100 km/h in just 4.6 seconds.
