GMC Hummer EV Previewed With Removable Roof Panels

As you may know, General Motors was supposed to unveil the future 2022 GMC Hummer EV yesterday as the fully electric interpretation of the iconic and gigantic American SUV, previewed in a Super Bowl commercial this past winter.

Unfortunately, the coronavirus pandemic forced the automaker to postpone the big event. We still got something to whet our appetite, though.

Similar to the Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator as well as the upcoming Ford Bronco, the GMC Hummer EV will feature removable roof panels—four of them to be exact—along with a front T-bar that also comes out of the truck as you can see on the picture above.

That should make for off-road excursions that are equally refreshing and quiet. And with four panels, it’s safe to assume a single person won’t have any trouble removing the roof or putting it back on.

As for other details and equipment, GM hasn’t revealed much at this point. No new date has been picked for the unveiling, either. Additional teasers might be coming in the next few weeks and months, mind you.

In case you forgot, GM reportedly has invested more than $2 billion USD in the development of what will be a direct competitor of the Tesla Cybertruck. The specs are mind-blowing: 1,000 horsepower, 11,500 pound-feet of torque and 0-96 km/h in three seconds.

The Hummer EV will be available in both pickup and SUV configurations. Also, look for massive all-terrain tires, several tow hooks and GMC’s versatile MultiPro tailgate (currently found on the Sierra). The cabin will be highlighted by huge displays for the instruments and centre interface. Designers have shown what they’re capable of with the all-new 2021 Cadillac Escalade.
