Cadillac’s Blackwing Sedans Will be Manual and Damn Fast

Cadillac today revealed that the ultimate performance expression of its new CT4 and CT5 sedans will indeed carry the name “Blackwing.”

Designed equally for the road and the track, they will be more powerful and more capable than the previously announced CT4-V (320 hp) and CT5-V (355 hp), with unprecedented levels of driving excitement.

“The Blackwing name has come to represent the very best of Cadillac performance engineering, craftsmanship and technology,” said Brandon Vivian, Cadillac executive chief engineer. “The new CT4-V Blackwing and CT5-V Blackwing build on the brand’s respected legacy of ultimate-performance driving experiences and elevate them even further.”

Unfortunately, we still don’t know when these two limited-production models will hit the market.

Cadillac also gave very few details about the technical aspects, simply mentioning that the cars will feature specially tuned chassis, vehicle control technologies and engines.

One thing’s for sure, though: a manual gearbox will be available. That’s excellent news for performance enthusiasts who feel let down by all those sports sedans and coupes now offering automatic transmissions only.

And here’s another sweet piece of information provided by Cadillac: earlier this year at the Virginia International Raceway, prototypes of the Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing and CT5-V Blackwing set lap times seconds faster than the almighty ATS-V (464 hp) and CTS-V (640 hp).

The company promises to reveal more about the upcoming Blackwing models over the next few months, so stay tuned!
