Is This Proof That a Chevy Camaro EV is Coming?
As reported last week, General Motors held a presentation at its Tech Center in Michigan to not only unveil a new, high-capacity battery with up to 645 km of range but also to shed some light on its future electric vehicles to be sold within the next few years.
One of the videos during the presentation aimed to show that the powerful “Ultium” battery can be fitted to various applications and body styles. It appeared on a dark background under all sorts of silhouettes including a pickup, an SUV, a van (or possibly the Cruise Origin self-driving shuttle) and what looks like a sports coupe.

Could it be the Chevrolet Camaro? Sure enough, the line is quite similar to the side profile of the Camaro, from the hood to the trunk. Here’s a comparison:
Is GM really planning an electric Camaro? That would make sense.
You see, the current-generation model has fallen to third place in the segment on North American sales charts, behind the Ford Mustang and Dodge Challenger. There have been a few updates for 2020, but the launch of the next generation has been postponed and is not expected until 2023 approximately.
Interestingly, long-time Camaro boss Al Oppenheiser was promoted to head of GM’s EV division in 2018. Some industry analysts claim the only way for the Camaro to survive is to come back as a fully electric car.
If that’s indeed the case, the mysterious teaser above suggests the Camaro will remain a classic coupe instead of morphing into a crossover like the Mustang Mach-E.
