Jeep to Sell Electrified Vehicles Under “4xe” Badge

In addition to a pair of concepts, FCA will present its newest vehicle electrification technologies at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas next week.

As the first step in Jeep’s plan to become “the greenest SUV brand in the world” and offer electrification options on all models by 2022, the brand will display plug-in hybrid variants of the Jeep Wrangler, Compass and Renegade.

The last two made their debut in Geneva in March 2019.

Going forward, all Jeep electrified vehicles will carry a new “4xe” badge, FCA has just announced. This includes models with the eTorque mild hybrid system, regular PHEVs with some battery-only range and eventually all-electric vehicles.

“Jeep electric vehicles will be the most efficient and responsible Jeep vehicles ever, providing absolute and quiet open-air freedom while taking performance, 4x4 capability and driver confidence to the next level,” the automaker claims in a statement. “With greater torque and immediate engine response, Jeep electric vehicles will offer an even more fun-to-drive experience on the road and more capability than ever off the road.”

In the case of the Compass and Renegade, a turbocharged 1.3-litre gasoline engine is paired with two electric motors to deliver up to 236 horsepower and a zero-emission range of about 50 kilometres.

Details on the Wrangler have yet to be released, but it could get a version of the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid's V6 powertrain. Expect less range than the 53 kilometres achieved by the minivan, however.

Additional information about the Jeep Wrangler, Compass and Renegade 4xe vehicles, which all debut this year, will be provided at the Geneva, New York and Beijing auto shows, so stay tuned.
