2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer Makes North American Debut
General Motors has two important new SUVs on display at the 2019 Los Angeles Auto Show this week. One of them is the Buick Encore GX, which we covered in a previous article, but the one that’s going to sell in greater volumes is most certainly the 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer.
It comes here following its world premiere in China earlier this year, and we know a lot more about it now.

As Chevrolet’s seventh SUV, the Trailblazer slots between the Trax and Equinox. Styling is more reminiscent of the sporty Blazer, though, and a new level of personalization will be offered to customers.
It also introduces a new ACTIV trim package that stands out with a two-tone roof with side rails, a larger grille opening, unique front and rear fascia and dual exhaust, along with Hankook Sport Terrain tires and suspension tuning enhancements. A simulated front skidplate adds a sense of strength.
Meanwhile, the RS trim features a performance-inspired mesh grille with black Chevy bowtie and unique front splitter elements. It too comes standard with a two-tone roof.
Inside, the 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer makes a similar differentiation between trim levels with customized finishes and stitching. The centre console provides several storage options. Overall cargo capacity is rated at 1,540 litres with the 40/60-split second-row seats folded.
Chevy’s latest infotainment system has available wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.
When it comes to safety, all Trailblazer LT, ACTIV and RS models in Canada will have standard Rear Park Assist, Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. Many additional driver assistance systems are part of the package, as well, including Forward Collision Alert, Automatic Emergency Braking and Adaptive Cruise Control.
As for powertrains, the new Trailblazer follows the same recipe as the Encore GX. It offers not one, but two new turbocharged three-cylinder engines. The base 1.2-litre unit is rated at 137 horsepower and 166 pound-feet of torque, while the optional 1.3-litre mill generates 155 horsepower and 174 pound-feet of torque.
Both are paired with a CVT in front-wheel drive applications, while the 1.3L-AWD combo will rely on GM’s nine-speed autobox.
The 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer is expected to arrive in showrooms next spring, with specific trim and option pricing details to be announced closer to launch. Before that, we’ll get the chance to see it again when it make its Canadian debut at the Montreal Auto Show from January 17-26, 2020.
