2020 Ford Expedition Adds King Ranch Model, Platinum Features

Gas prices be damned, sales of the big Ford Expedition are exploding. During the first half of 2019, they were up 44 percent in Canada and 56 percent in the U.S. compared to the same period in 2018—the best start in more than a decade.

Two years after a complete redesign, Ford is building on that success for 2020 with the addition of the Expedition King Ranch and an upgraded Platinum model with new materials and high-end finishes.

Fittingly, the announcement was made at the annual State Fair of Texas in Dallas.

Continuing a tradition that started in 2005 (or 1999 in the case of the Ford F-150), the new King Ranch will appeal to customers looking for western-inspired style in a high-end truck. Available on standard and long-wheelbase Expedition models, it features elegant Stone Gray paint on the grille mesh, power-deployable running boards, a rear bumper skid plate, unique side mirror caps and roof-rack side rails.

Other exterior highlights include body-coloured upper bumpers and Stone Gray-painted lower bumpers, as well as exclusive 22-inch six-spoke aluminum wheels with dark tarnish-painted pockets. King Ranch badging appears on the body sides, liftgate and wheel centre caps.

The interior of the Ford Expedition King Ranch makes use of premium Del Rio leather over all three rows of seats and more, Kingsville stitching on the steering wheel and Ziricote wood veneer on the console. The King Ranch logo is emblazoned into the seatbacks of all three rows, including the power-folding, tip-and-slide captain’s chairs with perforated inserts in the second row.

Meanwhile, the Expedition Platinum is updated with new 22-inch wheels and new premium finishes. Leather upgrades highlight the interior, including an instrument panel topper wrapped in leather, plus front door trim rollover and console rails.

Platinum also includes premium features such as leather-trimmed front- and second-row seats with perforated seat inserts and quilted bolsters, multi-contour front seats with Active Motion, and a Wollsdorf leather-wrapped steering wheel with Pecan stitching.

Both the 2020 Ford Expedition King Ranch and Platinum come standard with Ford Co-Pilot360, FordPass Connect featuring a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot for up to 10 mobile devices, continuously controlled damping and a 360-degree camera with split-view.

In case you’re wondering, Ford Co-Pilot360 includes driver-assist features such as Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking and Pedestrian Detection, Forward Collision Warning and Dynamic Brake Support, a Blind Spot Information System with Cross-Traffic Alert, a Lane-Keeping System and auto high-beam headlights.

Canadian pricing will be announced at a later date.
