2020 Hyundai Palisade Priced Lower than the Kia Telluride

Hyundai Canada has finally announced pricing for its all-new, three-row SUV, the 2020 Palisade. Replacing the Santa Fe XL, this model will go on sale in just a few weeks and take on vehicles like the Ford Explorer, Honda Pilot, Nissan Pathfinder, Toyota Highlander and Mazda CX-9, among others.

Built on a totally new platform shared with the Kia Telluride, the Palisade uses the same 3.8-litre V6 engine that produces 291 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque via an eight-speed automatic transmission.

A key difference is that the Palisade comes with front-wheel drive in base trim, whereas its Korean cousin offers all-wheel drive as standard equipment. This partly explains the big price gap between the two: the Hyundai SUV starts at $38,499 (freight and delivery charges not included), while the Kia retails from $44,995.

Then again, at $40,499, the most affordable Palisade with all-wheel drive undercuts the Telluride by more than $4,000. By the way, the next-generation HTRAC all-wheel drive system offers a multi-terrain selector, so in addition to the traditional Comfort, Sport, Eco and Intelligent modes, you can choose from Snow, Mud and Sand.

Furthermore, Palisade models equipped with 20-inch wheels feature a self-leveling rear suspension.

As for the interior, the list of standard goodies includes heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, SmartSense safety features, seven USB ports and up to 16 cupholders. It is possible to get a Palisade with dual captain’s chairs instead of a second-row bench seat (but only in the two most expensive models) as well as Nappa leather surfaces. Cargo capacity is more generous than in the Explorer and Highlander, with a total of 1,296 litres behind the second row.

Here are full pricing details for the 2020 Hyundai Palisade:

  • Essential FWD 8 passengers - $38,499
  • Essential AWD 8 passengers - $40,499
  • Preferred AWD 8 passengers - $45,499
  • Luxury AWD 8 passengers - $50,199
  • Luxury AWD 7 passengers - $50,699
