This Jacked-up Honda Civic Type R Should Compete in Rallies

The Honda Civic Type R is by far the most extreme version of the regular Civic, but what would be the extreme version of the Type R? It’s a question probably no one had ever asked—until now.

The people at Honda UK approached Ralph Hosier Engineering and commissioned a custom build of their formidable sports car to show off at an annual journalist test event at the Millbrook Proving Grounds in England.

The result is called “Civic Type OveRland” and, although the looks are questionable, it’s the kind of jacked-up, rally-ready hatchback we would love to drive across snowy Canadian roads, hot Mexican deserts and everything in between.

The suspension was modified and lifted three inches, while a set of 18-inch lightweight competition wheels wrapped in BF Goodrich all-terrain tires provide an additional inch. As you can see, the wheels were painted in white to match the car.

The body of the Civic Type R went through an extensive transformation, as well. The side skirts and front splitter were deleted to improve ground clearance, massive fenders were installed and new intakes were added to the hood and roof, the latter drawing fresh air into the cockpit. There’s a roll cage inside and the revised trunk (no more glass liftgate) accommodates two spare tires.

No upgrades seem to have been made to the 306-horsepower engine, however.

According to Honda UK, the Civic Type OveRland will be fully completed about a month from now. There are no plans for series production, of course, but Ralph Hosier Engineering says it will happily build copies for Type R owners with cash to spare.
