About a month ago, we told you about the three awesome engine upgrade kits the tuning specialists at Hennessey prepared for the outgoing 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1.
Building on its 755-horsepower, supercharged 6.2-litre LT5 V8 engine, they were able to boost the car’s output to 850 hp, 1,000 hp and even 1,200 hp.

In the second case, torque was also increased to 966 lb.-ft. And it’s that particular Corvette we’re going to show you today.
We seldom post videos of acceleration battles and other drag-strip feats on The Car Guide, but this one definitely caught our attention and deserves a few minutes of your time.
Why? Because it pits Hennessey’s 1,000-hp Corvette ZR1 against a muscle car so fast the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) banned it from competition in the U.S. It also set a Guinness World Record as the first production car to pop a wheelie and cover a distance of 0.89 metres (2.92 feet).
Yeah, we’re talking about the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon, whose supercharged 6.2-litre V8 produces up to 840 hp and 770 lb.-ft. of torque with the optional engine controller and using race fuel. It completes the quarter-mile in just 9.65 seconds.
Admittedly, these are two different beasts, and not just because of their size, shape and weight. Who wins in a race from a rolling start? The answer should not surprise you, but it’s a thrill to watch nonethless…
