The Car Guide’s 2019 Best Buys: Lincoln Navigator

The luxury SUV market is showing no signs of slowing down and the number of models introduced is steadily climbing. To help consumers make a sound decision during their new-car shopping process, The Car Guide’s team of journalists publish every year their list of Best Buys in all vehicle categories, including that of full-size luxury SUVs.

This year, it’s the Lincoln Continental that grabs the Best Buy title in its category. It impresses by its high level of refinement, well-executed cockpit and amazing interior space—whether it’s the regular- or extended-wheelbase version. It also boasts a battalion of advanced safety driving aids and its infotainment system is both feature-rich and user-friendly.

In addition, the Navigator relies on a twin-turbo, 3.5-litre V6 engine that develops 450 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque. It provides the SUV with spirited performance, surprising smoothness and a maximum towing capacity of 8,700 lbs. (3,946 kg). Six drive modes are available, allowing for sharp road manners, an ultra-comfortable ride or an interesting in-between. The Lincoln Navigator retails from $90,750 before freight and delivery charges.

The Cadillac Escalade (MSRP from $87,495) takes second place, getting our attention for its muscular 420-horsepower, 6.2-litre V8 engine, but also its max towing capacity of 8,100 lbs. (3,674 kg). Available with two wheelbase lengths, the Escalade can carry up to eight passengers.

In third place in the full-size luxury SUV segment, we find the Range Rover (MSRP from $112,000), thanks to its lavish cockpit, its high level of refinement and the undeniable capability of its four-wheel drive system. The Range Rover also offers a wide range of powertrains, including gasoline and diesel V6 engines, a supercharged 5.0-litre V8 and even a plug-in hybrid option. The latter dishes out 398 horsepower and provides the SUV with an electric-only driving range of up to 51 km.
