2019 Kia Sorento: Five Things to Know

Introduced in 2002, the Kia Sorento is a sport utility vehicle (SUV) that’s larger than the Sportage, but smaller than the all-new Telluride. It takes on direct competitors such as the Honda Pilot, Mazda CX-9 and Chevrolet Traverse.

Here are five things you need to know about the third-generation 2019 Kia Sorento:

Four or six cylinders

The new Kia Sorento comes standard with a naturally aspirated 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine that produces 185 horsepower and 178 lb.-ft. of torque. Alternatively, customers can select a 3.3-litre V6 engine rated at 290 horsepower and 252 lb.-ft.

If you stick with the former, a six-speed automatic will take care of shifting. As for the V6, the transmission features two more gears.

All-wheel drive

The base model relies on front-wheel drive, while every other model in the 2019 Kia Sorento lineup benefits from the brand’s Dynamax all-wheel drive system. This is particularly useful for Canadian drivers facing tough winter conditions.

Moreover, the standard configuration accommodates five passengers, but there’s a three-row option on the menu, as well.

UVO Intelligence

The 2019 Kia Sorento is available with the UVO Intelligence system, allowing you to remotely start the vehicle, lock or unlock the doors, activate the horn or headlights and set the climate control using a smartphone app. This app also provides monthly vehicle health reports, maintenance alerts and more.

Numerous technologies

The Sorento can be equipped with a 360-degree camera system, advanced smart cruise control, lane keeping assist, forward collision avoidance assist and rear cross traffic alert. You can also get a smart power liftgate that automatically opens if you stand behind the vehicle for three seconds with the key in your pocket.

Competitive price

In base trim with the four-cylinder engine and front-wheel drive, the 2019 Kia Sorento starts at $28,295 before freight and delivery charges.

Adding AWD will cost you an extra $2,300. If you prefer a V6 model, be prepared to pay a minimum of $35,095. Finally, the top-of-the-line Sorento SXL will relieve you of more than $50,000.
