Mercedes-Benz Unveils the Fully Electric EQC in Toronto

German brand Mercedes-Benz is set to rival Tesla, Audi and Jaguar in the fully electric, luxury SUV arena with the 2020 EQC, which is making its Canadian debut at the Toronto Auto Show.

Also, pricing for the new 2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class sedan was revealed during the press conference of the show’s media preview day. The A 220 sedan will start at $34,990 before freight and delivery charges, while the A 220 4MATIC will list from $36,990.

The A 220 is equipped with a turbocharged 2.0-litre four that develops 188 horsepower, along with a dual-clutch, seven-speed automated transmission. Standard features include a power panoramic sunroof, automatic climate control, LED headlights and taillights, 17-inch alloy wheels, heated front seats, a power driver’s seat with position memory feature and a MBUX infotainment system with seven-inch touchscreen.

The 2020 Mercedes-Benz EQC 400 features two electric motors to provide an all-wheel drivetrain and whose combined output is rated at about 402 horsepower and 564 pound-feet of torque. This EQC is also equipped with an 80-kWh battery pack, and the number 400 in the vehicle’s name refers to its estimated driving range of 400 kilometres. A full level 2 recharge is said to take 10 to 11 hours.

Pricing hasn’t yet been announced, but the EQC 400—which will battle the likes of the Jaguar I-PACE, the Audi e-tron quattro and the Tesla Model X—will go on sale in Canada in early 2020.
