Chevrolet Celebrates 100 Years of Trucks with an All-new 2019 Silverado
The Chevrolet brand was established in November 1911, and six years later, presented its first truck, the 1918 One-Ton. During a media event in Dallas, Texas celebrating the 100th anniversary of the brand’s first truck, the automaker also unveiled the redesigned, 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500.
According to GM, the Silverado is “new from the ground up” and using the biggest customer research in the company’s history, the truck was developed using the feedback of more than 7000 people. It will use more lighter materials such as high-strength steel to reduce overall weight, which has a positive impact on performance, handling and fuel economy.

The new pickup’s front fascia boasts a trademark—but more stylish—Chevrolet grille, and keeps its generally square shape. However, there are new character lines on the truck’s flanks, such as one that starts at the tip of front turn signal, drops slightly as it reaches the front door and flows straight under the door handles all the way to the rear wheel arch. Another line starts right above the front-door handle and heads straight down to the top of the taillight.
At launch, eight variants of the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 will be available, including a new LT Trailboss trim. It will be equipped with the brand’s Z71 suspension package with two-inch ride height lift. No word yet on powertrains and other technical details, but as usual, we can expect one V6 engine as well as one of two V8s. The Silverado will make its public debut at the Detroit Auto Show in January—at the same time as one of its rivals, the 2019 Ram 1500.
