Winter Driving, Our Tips and Advice

This advertorial is brought to you by Icar Mirabel

Winter driving can be a challenge for many, especially in Quebec. Here is a little guide to help you through winter without a scratch!

To be well prepared to face the snowy roads, know that preventive driving courses are available. ICAR Mirabel has been offering this type of training for a few years now. The two-hour course includes a 30-minute theory session, followed by hands-on training in a 60-minute, snow-covered closed-circuit car. Given by a professional instructor, this training focuses on the emergency situations you may encounter this winter. You will learn to take control of your vehicle in situations where you lose grip, avoid slipping off the road or collisions, techniques of pumping brakes and update your skills. Cars are provided, so don’t you worry about practicing on your own vehicle.

Stephen Foliot, chief instructor at ICAR Mirabel, recalls that "the winter preventive course is a great way to prepare for winter driving, but afterwards, you have to remember to adapt your driving according to road conditions." Keep your distance and remember the tips learned in the Preventative Driving Course if you feel a loss of grip.

Several other precautions can be taken to avoid misadventures this winter. Be sure to clear the entire car so you have optimal visibility all around your vehicle. Check the level of washer fluid before you leave, because you don’t want to run out some during your drive. Finally, do not forget the essentials; a small shovel, booster cables, a snow scraper, traction aids and warm clothes will be very useful if you slide off the road.

By combining preventive driving training and being cautious, winter promises to be a piece of cake! The preventive driving course is currently on sale for $149 instead of $249. It's time to get ready for winter: https://icarexperience.ca/experiences/autres/conduite-preventive/
