Honda Unveils Output of the 2017 Civic Si

At last, we now know the engine output of the 2017 Honda Civic Si.

We already knew that Honda wouldn’t introduce a new powertrain, but will instead use its excellent turbocharged, 1.5-litre engine. In the regular Civic, this four-cylinder mill develops between 174 and 180 horsepower, depending on trim.

Well, in the 2017 Civic Si, output rises to 205 horsepower, along with a torque rating of 192 pound-feet. Compared to the previous-generation car, power in unchanged, but delivered at a lower rev range, while torque climbs by 18 pound-feet.

Obviously, the Civic Si will get a sportier suspension than its sisters, and a CVT automatic transmission won’t be available. The car will only be offered with a good old six-speed manual. There will also be a sport mode that firms up the suspension and the steering system, similar to what’s already available in the Volkswagen Golf GTI, among other things. Power will be sent to the front wheels, but Honda is promising a capable torque management system.

For now, the Si will only be sold in coupe and sedan body styles. Those who would’ve liked to see a hatchback Civic Si will likely have to be patient.

The car’s output already raises concerns, since it will have to rival the likes of the 220-hp GTI and the 252-hp Ford Focus ST.

The 2017 Honda Civic Si’s price should start at around $27,000 before freight and delivery charges. For that sum, the car is equipped with pretty much all the features found in the Civic EX-T, which includes dual-zone climate control, heated front seats and the Honda LaneWatch blind spot camera.
