The 2017 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid qualifies for maximum green-vehicle rebates

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles’ new plug-in hybrid minivan will hit the market next month, and it will offer an EV-only driving range of up to 48 kilometres before the gasoline engine kicks in for travelling another 800 km before stopping for fuel.

That’s a greater EV range than every other PHEV currently offered on the Canadian market, aside from the Chevrolet Volt, which GM actually qualifies as an extended-range EV.

The 2017 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid has an MSRP of $56,495 before freight and delivery charges. That might sound like a lot—and it is for a family on a budget—but it comes loaded to the gills and actually costs $2,165 less than its gasoline-only counterpart, the Pacifica Limited. The latter carries an MSRP of $52,995, but we’re factoring in $5,665 in options that are standard in the plug-in hybrid version.

In addition, there probably couldn’t be a better time than now for purchasing a Pacifica Hybrid, at least in the Canadian provinces that offer government green-vehicle rebates. In British Columbia, the Clean Energy Vehicle program will give back $5,000 towards the purchase of an EV or a PHEV that has a battery capacity greater than 15 kWh. The one in the Pacifica Hybrid has a capacity of 16 kWh.

Combined with the province’s SCRAP-IT program, which means the eligible vehicle we’re trading in will be taken off the road and recycled, the total incentive climbs to $8,250. BC’s CEV program will run until March 31st, 2018 or until the allocated funds will be exhausted.

In Quebec, the rebate for PHEVs also varies according to battery capacity. A vehicle that has a capacity of at least 15 kWh qualifies for the maximum $8,000 rebate. Quebec also offers a rebate of up to $600 for the installation of a 240-volt charge station at home. The Drive Electric program ends on December 31st, 2020 or when the allocated funds run out.

The province of Ontario is particularly generous. Their Electric Vehicle Incentive Program calculates an amount based on battery capacity and passenger capacity. Again, the Pacifica Hybrid qualifies for the maximum amount—of $14,000!

Simply put, if you live in one of these three provinces, the Chrysler Pacifica that packs the most value right now is undoubtedly the Hybrid.
