Volkswagen Gets Out of WRC

We previously mentioned that Audi was leaving WEC (and the 24 Hours of Le Mans) at the end of the 2016 season. The Dieselgate scandal was partly to blame for this, and every branch of the Volkswagen empire had to cut back costs.

Now, the Volkswagen brand itself has to cut its racing program; we learned that the German manufacturer will get out of WRC at the end of the 2016 season.

This news is pretty shocking, since Volkswagen was dominating both parts of the championship (driver AND manufacturer) for the last four years.

Volkswagen’s last WRC race will be held in Australia later this month. This is the last time Sébastien Ogier will wheel its manufacturer-spec Polo WRC.
